Will GTA 6 run at 30fps or 60fps on PS5 and Xbox?

Rockstar's own people are talking 30fps on current console builds. Digital Foundry is not optimistic about 60. PS5 Pro rumors are still rumors.

If you buy GTA VI on November 19, you should budget your expectations around 30 frames a second on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is not a troll take. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has said the current console builds run at 30. Digital Foundry looked at how heavy the simulation is and basically shrugged at 60.

Bright interiors and dense crowds are part of why current console builds are being discussed at 30 frames.

I want 60 as much as anyone who grew up on GTA V's performance mode. I also remember how Red Dead 2 felt at 30 and still ate a weekend. Frame rate is not the whole game. It is just the part Twitter will fight about until January.

Why 30 is the grown-up answer right now

Nelson was not doing a marketing dance. He was talking about the build they have. Digital Foundry's read is that Leonida is CPU-hungry: crowds, traffic, weather, two protagonists, cops thinking about you. That is the stuff that makes a world feel alive and also the stuff that murders a 60fps budget.

The Extended Look is gorgeous in motion. Gorgeous in motion at 30 can still look like a movie. Gorgeous at an unlocked 40-50 with hitching can look like a mess. I would rather Rockstar ship a stable 30 than a chaotic 'performance' mode they are not sure about.

PS5 Pro and the 60fps hopium

A leak doing the rounds says Pro hits 60. Cool if true. It is a leak. Rockstar has not put a Pro feature list on the store page. If you are buying a Pro just for GTA VI, you are betting with your wallet, not quoting a spec sheet.

Series X and base PS5 are the machines they have to hit in November. That is the mass-market promise. Everything else is gravy.

What about first person?

Previews keep asking. Launch plans are still being argued in headlines more than in a support article I can point at. Cabin cameras in the footage are close enough that a first-person driving view feels plausible. Plausible is not a toggle in the pause menu.

I will update this the minute Rockstar puts camera options in writing. Until then, buy the game for the third-person world they keep showing.
